Newsletter #8

Morning/Afternoon/Evening/Night, whatever the time zone is that this may find you, I hope all is well. It’s been a week of gel plate printing, and organisation this week, and that’s not even to speak of a new addition to the Bowe wider family - my niece had a little boy this week. Both are well, and that logic dictates I do a pencil sketch of the new born, as that is the tradition I have built for myself over the last twenty years or so.
I’ve been working away on getting my website ready, which I’m glad to say, although it isn’t completely there yet, it’s progressed along quite well. I’ve been without a site for some years now, and not having anywhere to sell originals or prints of my own has been a massive underestimation on my part. I’ve never really had t do any of the calibration necessary to put a site up, not that I have had any technical role in assembling the site. But cobbling my work together and writing up a little about each piece, although a mammoth task at the start, is starting to pay off. Not unlike moving here from FB, it’s making me be more concise with my thinking, which feels a lot more accountable, and as such more memorable.

The gel plates I’ve been working on this week have all been in keeping with the larger Panotrait project that I have running in the background currently. They are part of bringing from the background to the foreground over the coming weeks, as I begin column three, out of the five necessary to complete it. I like to have as many preliminary sketches in the medias I intend to use for the five paintings I’ll do for each column. And this approach to using the gel plates in conjunction with the oil pastels seems so far to be quick and effective. You can see footage of me painting one here. I’m currently working on the last of the five individual portraits which will, when put together make the composition for the column, having complete one last week, and three this week. There’s also a number of residual images generated from these prints that have taken on something of a life of their own, which in time I will post here, but there is some work to be done in that department yet…….
The beginning of the week was getting something of a graphical project painted out -

This took a bit longer than I thought it would, but all the same it was only a days pasinting to get them completed painting wise. There are fifteen here, in the end there will be sixteen in a 4X4 formation, and hopefully if I have done my ground work properly then they should cycle through the primary colours I’ve used in them, something like an earlier related piece -

There’s a couple more stages before the image I’ve been painting this week makes it to it’s final stage, and other things are a bit more pressing currently, but sometime in the coming weeks hopefully……..
So that’s it this week, next week I start a Panoscape commision, more work on the website(hopefully I’ll be comfortable with sharing the link on here by then….)and some thing else that i remain quiet about currently, but I hope to have at least planned enough to tell you about next week……
Thanks for reading again,
Josh
